Day 15: Etch glass

Today we are going to a wedding for my dad's friend's daughter, Megan. Here's us when we were both little on a trip to King's Island. Don't mind the rediculous 90's wear...

Anyway, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try out glass etching. I got the idea to etch casserole dishes from a site I found on StumbleUpon.

So we bought this Pyrex set and I went to work. I used Armor Etch and I was really impressed with the results. First, I made some assorted stencils (full last name, couple's monogram, and last initial) with my mom's Cricut.

Then I made them stickers, stuck them on the glassware, and taped it really well with painter's tape. You want to make sure it is absolutely stuck because otherwise it will bleed under and mess up your print. I then put a very thick coat of the stuff on and let it sit.

After 10 minutes or so, I washed it off really well - both before and after taking the stencil off.

After drying, it was done - and it looked really great!

After seeing these turn out so well, my mom had me make a vase for my brother's dance teacher's birthday. It has the studio's logo on it:

Day 14: Go to Orange Leaf between the hours of 11 - 12

So my friend Macy and I had to limbo our schedules so that we could spend time together, this meant meeting at Orange Leaf at 11pm. Yay! It was a party in there - actually, for the first time, we were like the only people in there. Except, our friend Sylvan works there! So she was there too!

I got my regular: original tart with strawberries, bananas, chocolate chips, granola, and rainbow sprinkles. It's like a jazzed up parfait! Yum!

Afterwards, Mace gave me an ornament made out of moose poop... Weird, but pretty!

So it all worked out and we lived happily ever after... The end. (;

Day 13: Make dinner with my brother & Make ice cream while babysitting

My brother and I have been talking about cooking together for awhile now. We figured we'd make a simple meal and it would go well. Haha, well aparently I forget who my brother is sometimes. We managed to pull it off, but the poor guy did a lot less help than hurt. I do have to break it to him that he did do a lot of the dishes - which was super helpful. Anyway, we made spaghetti with olive oil, green beans, strawberries, and bread. It was pretty good - in the end. Unfortunatley, I was too caught up to take any pictures, so you'll have to just trust that it looked something like this:

After dinner, we made ice cream in ziplocs. It's super easy and our 2-year-old friend Ellie loved to shake it up. I got this recipie from my chem teacher, and it's fool-proof.

MATERIALS:
sealable quart size freezer bag
1/2 cup milk
1/8 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon of flavoring (we used vanilla)
1-2 drops of food coloring
sealable gallon size freezer bag
2 cups ice
1/8 cup of rock salt (I suggest the one called "ice cream salt")

DIRECTIONS:
1. Dissolve sugar, flavoring and food coloring into the milk by gently shaking the quart bag for 45-60 seconds
2. Place the ice and rock salt into the gallon bag
3. Seal and drop the entire quart bag into the gallon bag (remove as much air from the small bag as possible)
4. Seal the gallon bag, hold it in a horizontal position and shake the large bag with hand on each end of the bag
5. Shake until the ice cream gets to a soft serve consistency
6. Pull out the small bag, rinse off the outside, and grab a spoon. (Yum!)

So it wasn't technically while babysitting, but we did it with a 2-year-old, so I'm counting it. (:

Day 12: Get a pedicure

I got my new bathing suit, so all i needed now was a pedi to match! So, my friend Elizabeth and I went to Foxy Nails and Tan in Hamburg. We go to Foxy Nails because it's relatively cheap, the place is really nice, and they do a good job. Plus, they always give you a little unexpected decoration on the toe. This kind of made my type-A personality self mad the first time, but after awhile I realized it was just fun! Anyway, go there - it's a great experience. And now for the pictures...

Day 11: Decorate a cake with fondant

So I love to bake: cookies, cupcakes, brownies, you name it. However, I'd never actually fully covered a cake with fondant before yesterday. My friend Julie and I took flour, sugar, and a small box of fondant, hoping to turn it into something fabulous by the end of the afternoon. And it was!

We did triple chocolate cake with thick peanut butter icing - super delish. It had a really great taste, and some humble beginnings, but we worked and worked to make it look better.

We didn't have enough fondant to cover the bottom tier with one color, so we decided to go with a little more fun approach. It started out looking really rough, but we just kept adding and adding...

Until VOILA! A beautiful, fabulous, yummy cake!

And a ballerina and bush for my friend Victoria who is an extra-fondant waste disposal. (:

Day 10: Go a day without eating bread & Bike the Legacy Trail

Yesterday I had a pretty great summer day. I woke up and decided that I wasn't going to eat bread all day. I didn't eat breakfast because it was too late when I woke up. For lunch, I had a breadless "sandwich" which was actually really yummy. I put some cream cheese on a couple pieces of turkey and then put some pico de gallo and alvocado.

I planed to roll it up, but the turkey was too thin, so I used a slice of colby-jack cheese to hold it up. It was really good.

For dinner, my mom cooked pot roast; which may be my favoritest meal that my mom makes. I dip it in ranch; I know it's weird, but it's something I started when I was little and haven't grown out of.

After dinner, my dad suggested we take a bike ride. That really excited me, because riding The Legacy Trail was on my to do list for the summer.

Even though I got a new bike, I really hadn't riden it, so I didn't think I would be able to do the whole 16 mile ride this first time.

My dad actually thought we were going to stop early, but I wanted to go ahead and finish the extra 4 miles. It was crazy. I never would have believed I could have biked 16 miles the first time I went on a real bike ride bike ride.

That was super duper fun, and I felt so accomplished. It was also great to spend a little time with my dad - even if I was always trailing behind. (:

Days 7 & 8 & 9: Buy a new swimsuit & Buy a romper & Smile at someone who looks sad

Despite the fact that I have not been up-to-date with my posts, I have continued my project. My brother has rediscovered The Sims - with not having school - and is constantly using my computer.

Since I am three days behind, I figured I'd just do one giant post and get back caught up. The first day was for getting a new swimsuit; and what's better than a new swimsuit? TWO new swimsuits! Yay! So, I actually had bought them previously, but this was the first chance I got to wear either. I went to the Y with some friends, so I chose the pink one -  of course!

Unfortunatly, I cannot also make this post "Get a tan without a burn." While I got only a slightish burn - and it's mostly gone by now - it still hurts. I got it on my quads and stomach, so it's kinda an awkward burn...

So, I was really scared to get a romper. I had tried on tons before, and I just didn't like the way they fit or looked or whatever. However, I found one!

I call it "tribal," because, well, it is. Anyway, I wore it to a Lexington Ballet performance at Equus Run Vineyards. The ballet was really good, with some really interesting modern pieces. But I have to say that the vineyard stole the show. It was beautiful, with a gorgeous amphitheater leading right to the rows of grapevines. My friend Elizabeth and I have always said we are going to get rich and buy a vineyard; and this is exactly what we were dreaming about. I felt like we were in an upscale version of The Parent Trap; which, of course, was what we based our ideas on - haha.

Last but not least, I smiled at someone that looked particularly sad. As several of my close friends would say - sympathy does not come easily to me. But, I can fake it (; which means that I can put my chin up, a smile on my face, and act like everything's happy. And I did just that. Since I didn't capture the moment, enjoy some pictures of me smiling:

Thank you, I love you, and I'll be on time with my posts from here on out - hopefully. (:
